Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain pasta and set aside.
In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 10 minutes.
Add sliced bell peppers, onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the pan. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 10 minutes.
Add diced tomatoes and chicken broth to the pan. Bring to a simmer and let cook until sauce is slightly thickened, about 10 minutes.
Add cooked pasta to the pan and toss to coat with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes or until pasta is heated through. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Tips:
If you can't find spicy Italian sausage, you can use mild Italian sausage and add additional red pepper flakes for heat.
Feel free to add other vegetables to this dish, such as sliced mushrooms or zucchini.
Serve with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley for added flavor.
