Pho is a traditional Vietnamese soup that is loved all over the world for its rich flavor and healthy ingredients. Made with rice noodles, fresh herbs, and a savory broth, this dish is perfect for a cold winter night or a warm summer day.

To make this recipe, you will need:

  • 1 pound of beef bones
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, smashed
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 tablespoon of coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 pound of beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound of rice noodles
  • 1/2 cup of bean sprouts
  • 1/2 cup of chopped cilantro
  • 1/2 cup of chopped scallions
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

First, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a roasting pan, add the beef bones, onion, and garlic. Roast for 30 minutes, or until the bones are browned.

Next, in a large pot, add 4 quarts of water and the roasted bones. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 4-6 hours. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface.

After simmering, strain the broth into another pot and discard the solids. Add the cinnamon stick, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, salt, and sugar to the broth. Simmer for another 30 minutes.

While the broth is simmering, cook the rice noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and rinse with cold water.

To assemble the pho bowls, divide the cooked rice noodles among 6 bowls. Add the thinly sliced beef on top of the noodles. Ladle the hot broth over the beef and noodles. Top with bean sprouts, cilantro, scallions, and a squeeze of lime juice.

Enjoy this delicious and nutritious Vietnamese pho recipe with your friends and family!
