Baked Mac and Cheese Recipe - A Comforting Classic Dish

If you're looking for a delicious and comforting meal that is easy to make, look no further than baked mac and cheese. This classic dish is perfect for any occasion, from a family dinner to a potluck with friends. The creamy cheese sauce combined with the crispy breadcrumb topping is sure to please everyone's taste buds.

To start, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and cook 2 cups of elbow macaroni according to package instructions. Drain the pasta and set it aside while you prepare the cheese sauce.

In a saucepan, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Once melted, add 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour and whisk until smooth. Gradually add 2 cups of milk, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Continue to cook the sauce over medium heat until it thickens, stirring frequently. Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper, and 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and pour it into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. In a separate bowl, mix 1 cup of breadcrumbs with 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the macaroni and cheese.

Bake the dish for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
