If you're a fan of sushi, then you'll love Gimbap! This Korean dish is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional sushi rolls. Gimbap is made with rice, seaweed, and a variety of fillings such as vegetables, meat, and egg. It's perfect for a quick and easy lunch or snack, and it's also a great party food.
Ingredients:
- 5 sheets of dried seaweed (gim)
- 3 cups of cooked short-grain white rice
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 cup of carrots, julienned
- 1/2 cup of spinach, blanched and seasoned with salt and sesame oil
- 1/2 cup of beef, cooked and sliced into thin strips
- 3 eggs, beaten and seasoned with salt and pepper
- 1/2 cup of pickled radish, julienned
Instructions:
- Mix sesame oil, sugar, rice vinegar, and salt into the cooked rice and let it cool to room temperature.
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat, add the beaten eggs and cook them into thin omelets. Once cooked, slice them into thin strips.
- Place a sheet of seaweed on a bamboo mat or a piece of plastic wrap.
- Spoon a thin layer of rice over the seaweed, leaving about an inch of seaweed uncovered at the top.
- Arrange the carrots, spinach, beef, egg, and pickled radish in a straight line on the bottom third of the rice.
- Use the bamboo mat or plastic wrap to tightly roll up the seaweed and rice, pressing down gently as you go.
- Moisten the top edge of the seaweed with water to seal the roll.
- Repeat with the remaining seaweed and ingredients.
- Let the rolls sit for a few minutes to firm up, then slice them into bite-size pieces.
Serving:
Gimbap can be served as a main dish, appetizer or snack. It can be enjoyed hot or cold, and is perfect for picnics, parties, and lunchboxes. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi for an extra kick of flavor.
