Grilled Yakitori Chicken Skewers Recipe: Sweet and Savory Delight

If you're a fan of Japanese cuisine, you've probably come across this mouthwatering dish - Yakitori. Grilled chicken skewers are marinated in a delicious blend of sweet and savory sauce, making it a popular street food in Japan and around the world. Here's how you can make it at home:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup mirin
  • 1/4 cup sake
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 6-8 bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
  • Sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish

To start, mix soy sauce, mirin, sake, brown sugar, ginger, and garlic in a bowl until the sugar dissolves. Reserve 1/4 cup of the marinade for later use. Add chicken to the remaining marinade and toss to coat well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours.

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Thread chicken onto skewers, leaving a little space between each piece. Discard the marinade used for the chicken. Grill the skewers for 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly charred. Brush the reserved marinade over the skewers during the last few minutes of grilling.

Once done, transfer the skewers to a serving platter and sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the top. Serve hot and enjoy this delicious Japanese dish with your loved ones!
