If you're looking for a tasty and easy-to-make vegetarian dish, homemade falafel with tahini sauce is the perfect choice. This Middle Eastern classic is packed with protein, fiber, and flavor, making it a healthy and satisfying option for any meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- Oil for frying
Start by draining and rinsing the chickpeas and placing them in a large mixing bowl. Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, and fresh parsley to the bowl and mix until well combined.
In a separate bowl, mix together the cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, salt, black pepper, all-purpose flour, and baking powder. Add the dry ingredients to the chickpea mixture and stir until combined.
Heat oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Using a spoon or a small cookie scoop, form the chickpea mixture into balls and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.
Tahini Sauce:
- 1/2 cup tahini paste
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- Salt to taste
To make the tahini sauce, whisk together the tahini paste, water, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt to taste in a small bowl. Serve the falafel hot with the tahini sauce drizzled over the top.
