Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1/2 pound ground pork or chicken
- 1/2 cup chopped cabbage
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Begin by mixing the flour, sugar, and active dry yeast in a large bowl. Add the warm water and stir until a dough forms. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes, then cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
While the dough is resting, prepare the filling. In a separate bowl, mix together the ground pork or chicken, chopped cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
After the dough has rested, divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten each ball into a circle. Place a spoonful of the meat and vegetable mixture in the center of each circle, then gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal the filling inside.
Place the Baozi on a steamer basket lined with parchment paper, and steam them for 15-20 minutes. Serve the Baozi hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Tips:
- Make sure the dough is well rested before rolling it out. This will make it easier to work with and prevent tearing.
- When filling the Baozi, make sure to leave enough dough at the top to pinch and seal the filling inside.
- Experiment with different fillings, such as shrimp or tofu, to find your favorite flavor combination.
